This sculpture was part of my exploration into themes within Persephone’s descent and emergence from the underworld. Specifically, the tension between ensnarement and support offered by our time below.
Each petal is carved to imply life and movement with a floating glaze of pomegranate and white. The chiseled roots at the base were finished with wax for a satin finish.
Dimensions: 6.5 × 6.5 × 8 in / 6.8 lb
For your consideration:
A minimal and exaggerated representation of towering cacti like the Euphorbia Candelabra. Dark chocolate colored clay glazed in shades of nutmeg with a satin finish.
Dimensions: 6 × 6 × 9.5 in / 5 lb
Hand-built flecked stoneware bowl raised on eight individually carved legs. The interior is glazed in soft green and blue.
Made for fruit or display. Hand washing recommended.
Dimensions: 10.5 × 10.5 × 4.5 in / 4 lb
This vase emerged while I was exploring the pull of what's above and the snares of what's below. Her darker half is smoothly chiseled black stoneware with hints of gloss; her lighter half is a glossy seaweed glaze.
To make watering flowers easier, the interior floor is raised to just below the neck (see final photo).
Dimensions: 6 × 10 × 12.75 in / 6 lb
