This vase was part of my exploration into themes within Persephone's descent and emergence from the underworld. Specifically, the ways the underworld integrates and form a foundation for our rebirth.
Each petal is carved to imply life and movement with a floating glaze of pomegranate and white. The chiseled roots at the base were finished with wax for a satin finish.
Dimensions: 6.25 × 6.25 × 5.5 in / 3.7 lb
For your consideration:
Stoneware coaster ringed with hand-sculpted roots around a whorled center. The roots are washed in thinned oxblood glaze that lets the speckled clay show through; the recesses are fully glazed in glossy oxblood with moments of black and honey flax.
The 4" center fits candles, cups and mugs. Food and dishwasher safe.
Dimensions: 7 × 7 × 1.5 in / 2 lb
Hand-built stoneware vase wrapped in sculpted vines that tangle at the base and climb toward the rim into a crown of tendrils. Glazed in glossy sea green that breaks over texture and reveals reddish brown clay at the base.
Watertight for fresh flowers; hand wash only.
Dimensions: 8.5 × 8.5 × 12.5 in *HEAVY / 9.375 lb*
A carved envelope of marbled stoneware, inspired by ocean creatures like the nautilus. The interior is glazed in glossy blue with near-black speckles.
Please note: this piece balances on a slender arm and is not intended for high traffic use.
